Systems Research Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences is among the leading scientific institutions in the field of systems research. It employs more than 100 persons, of whom some 20 full professors, with a mixture of competence in applied mathematics, control theory, data analysis and modelling methods, optimisation, finance and economics, engineering and computer science. The primary domains of applied work of the Institute are shape optimisation, control of materials, optimisation software, reliability theory and quality management and control, decision support systems accounting for uncertainty and human behaviour, biomedical models, ecological modelling, water supply and treatment systems, air pollution and energy systems, optimisation and modelling of transport systems, spatial analysis, modelling of agricultural production systems, development paths of self-governmental units, etc. The Institute runs a doctoral study, oriented at financial mathematics, modern management methods, social and intellectual capital. National and international projects and networks, in which the Institute is involved, span a wide scope of themes and partners, the projects ranging from fundamental research down to marketable software products. In particular, SRI is a member of ERDN, European Rural Development Network, which includes more than a dozen institutes in Poland and Central Europe, focussing on research concerning the future of European rural areas. SRI is a partner in the FARO project. |
